DreamHack brings CS:GO major tournament to Stockholm

av Björn Ehrnberg

The last major of the year is underway in Cluj-Napoca in Romania.
And as the best teams in the world have gathered in Eastern Europe, Aftonbladet Esport can reveal that DreamHack are already in the planning stages of an upcoming tournament in Stockholm – a tournament Dreamhack hopes will become a part of the CS:GO major circuit.
– We will guarantee that it will be on a major level, Tomas ”Greykarn” Lyckedal tells Aftonbladet Esport.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is growing like ever before. The classical FPS game has become one of the biggest esports in the world and at the time of writing, the last major of the year is being played in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca.

”We can confirm that”

Aftonbladet Esport can now reveal that the tournament organizers, DreamHack, are already planning a huge tournament in the capitol of Sweden. During the first half of 2016, Dreamhack will establish a tourney of the same magnitude as the majors in what is considered the home of CS:GO. A leaked photo shows the plans for a ”DreamHack Masters Stockholm”, with a 10 000+ crowd and ”the biggest stages”. When asked about the picture, DreamHack confirms the news.
– We can confirm that and we will deliver more information next year, head press officer of Dreamhack, Fredrik Nyström, tells Aftonbladet Esport.

”You never know how Valve reasons”

Though the first tourney will be held in Stockholm, Dreamhack Masters won’t be confined to the city. Dreamhack hopes it will expand – and at the same time they hope it will become a part of the major circuit.
– You never know how Valve reasons, but we will guarantee that it will be on a major level, Tomas ”Greykarn” Lyckedal tells Aftonbladet Esport.

”Can’t give an exact date”

In its current format, the best teams in the world compete for 250 000 dollars each major tournament. At the same time, a qualified organization also receives the opportunity to make way more money in the form of stickers sold in the game. In other words, if the planned Dreamhack Masters in Stockholm would receive major status, the teams would be more incentivized to participate infront.
– We can’t give an exact date as we don’t know which tournament would receive that status, and we don’t want our planes to clash with other organizers.
