Through out the year several teams have competed in the Esportal Dota tournament. 100 000 Euros are at stake, but no LAN-finals will be held determining the champion of the tourney.
– Hosting the Grand Finals online is the best option for our teams, and will also help to keep the momentum of the tournament between the qualifiers and the Grand Final, Daniel ”pani” Aicardi says to Aftonbladet Esport.
Seven teams have qualified, with an other coming along this evening. With the likes of Team Empire, Virtus.Pro and Ninjas in Pyjamas, the Esportal LAN-finals seemed destined to be a great one. Now we know that won’t happen.
With several thousands of Euros on the line and the whole world watching just months prior to the greatest tournament of the year, the Esportal LAN-finals won’t be a reality. The reason is logistics.
64 000 Euros still up for grabs
According to tournament organizer, Daniel ”pani” Aicardi, Esportal the teams have a very hectic schedule over the summer and a LAN tournament wouldn’t be possible to fit in into that packed timetable.
– Esportal have made the decision to change the $64000 Grand Final of the Esportal Dota 2 League to an online format. The majority of our qualified teams have intense summer schedules, and unfortunately there are no suitable dates where a LAN Grand final can be held, Daniel ”pani” Aicardi says to Aftonbladet Esport.
The 64 000 Euros are still at stake, 32 000 of which will go to the winner of the tournament. The online finals will be held between 25th of June and 5th of July, and tonight the last qualified team will be determined when Vega Squadron face off against sqreen.
