I played vs MC and casted an amazing finals at DreamHack Stockholm

DreamHack came to Stockholm once again. As always it was an amazing event with a lot of great matches. I was there both to play and to cast StarCraft 2.

My tournament experience

Day one I came to DreamHack to play in the DreamHack Open tournament. I didn’t expect to go through the first group stage, but I did. In the second group stage I got to play Jang ”MC” Min Chul, one of the best players in the world. I lost 0-2. In the second game he completely owned me as I didn’t scout an attack. But the first game was more even than I could have hoped for. It started off with a terrible supply block at 28, a noob mistake by me. But after that I started to play pretty well. After a phoenix opening by MC I decided to make a 1-1 Roach + Hydra + Viper timing.

It went really well and I started to feel like I could actually beat the Boss Toss. That is a dangerous feeling. I got too eager to finish the game and lost because of it. It was a good experience though and I hope to get the chance to play him again sometime. I managed to surprise MC with my play and that is not something that happens every day.

– I’m surprise for your skill so good :), he said after game 1.

I ended up losing the group.

As usual Swedish Television was broadcasting from RO8 in the StarCraft tournament. I was casting together with my gym and casting buddy Tom “Endars” Bramler. It was a good experience as always. As I’m a Zerg player I’m always happy to see a lot of zerg players in the bracket. I was lucky this time as many zerg players did well in the tournament.

Top 8 was filled with Korean players. I think most people expected Eo ”soO” Yoon Su to win the DreamHack star. But Kang ”Solar” Min Soo had other plans. With great play and a bit of luck when it came to build orders he managed to do the impossible and beat soO 3-0. Getting to cast your role models when it comes to StarCraft gameplay is pretty amazing. I love the challenge to try and figure out what goes through their minds when it comes to strategy.

When I’m at events people sometimes asks to get a picture taken with me. This time, after the tournament ended, I was asked to take an unusual picture lifting a person above my head. I’m not sure I could have done it but I had to say no due to my fractured rib. Next time maybe :).
